Is there anything more poignant than a little old man like Mr. Hollingswood finding love and a forever home in the arms of his new mom?
BCFS is happy that this 14-year-old Chihuahua we rescued last September has been adopted!
BCFS has a soft spot for seniors because we believe every dog deserves a loving home until their end of days.
Hollingswood is a rare chocolate Chihuahua who’s nearly deaf and blind, has a hunched back and has been receiving treatments for his arthritis while in our foster care program. His back legs are rather weak and he’s a little wobbly, but we all get a bit wobbly as we age.
His tail wags in happiness at meeting new people though, and his frail body belies his strong spirit. He’s the happiest little Chihuahua we’ve ever met.
Hollingswood, or Mr. H as we affectionately call him, was in imminent danger of being euthanized when BCFS’ founder Amy rescued him and placed him in our foster care program in early September. This wee boy touched her heart ~ how could BCFS not rescue him?
Amy wrote on September 4th, “His soft eyes and frightened stance broke my heart as I pick up his fractured body. It was like picking up a very delicate bird. Yes, we’d take him into rescue. Yes, we’ll find a spot where Mr. H can get healthy and maybe find a forever home.” And she did.
We’re grateful to our foster volunteer Claudette who cared for Hollingswood in our foster care program since his rescue.
And grateful to Mr. H’s adoptive mom Grace who fell in love with his dear face and opened her heart and home to him. It doesn’t get much better than this, matching a senior gentleman like Hollingswood with his forever mom.
Mr. H’s new mom Grace sent an update on him and wrote,
Things are going really well! We’re getting along great and he’s sharing lots and lots of kisses. We were at the vet on Tuesday and we’ll be going to the chiropractor next week. He loves his bed and heated blankie and has been finding his pee pad more and more as the days go on and only peed on my bath mat once haha. He’s been a real pleasure to have around so far.
We’re pleased to know Hollingswood is settling in so well and wish him and Grace much happiness together.
Seniors like Hollingswood are gems as adoptive dogs. They’re usually much easier than puppies or younger dogs, and are happy with the simple things in life like a short daily walk, nutritious meals, a soft warm bed to lay in while they keep their families company, a sunbeam to chase, affection and tender care for their old bones.
BCFS works to rescue and make adoption a reality for seniors, and are happy for Mr. Hollingswood and thankful to his new mom! We encourage you to please consider adopting a senior!
