Bergen: three year old male, 25 lbs, cross

We got a call from our good rescue friends at Furever Friends Rescue of WNY that they were bringing in over twenty dogs from puppy mills and could we take any?

The relationship we’ve built with this group in conjunction with the SPCA Serving Erie County has lead to the rescue of many puppy mill animals and we were about to get a family.

First came mama Delana and her daughter Allura, now we welcome Bergen, a three year old neutered male to our foster program.

Bergen is not as shy as his mother. He will play roughly with dogs who are submissive, but will not challenge another dog for top spot. He’s very handsome and was the first to come to staff for a hot dog treat.

He had kennel cough on arrival, but after treatment he’s recovered nicely. He’s reacted to leash training with grace and picked up on the idea in a short time.

He’ll still need some time to find his place, but gets attached to people and property quickly.

Bergen has a sweet face and we can’t believe he’s a shih tzu mix, but even our vet is a little puzzled as to the cross breeding of this twenty-five pound handsome fella.

Bergen would do well in a home with another dog. We haven’t tested his tolerance to cats. Small children might move too quickly for this fella.

A fenced yard would be ideal as well as a female dog to continue his education in “how to be a dog”.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Bergen please send in an adoption application from our documents page.

ps… Bergen has a very “hound” sounding bark. lol
